Home is the most dangerous place for women around the world. That’s the conclusion made by researchers from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which found that of the approximately 87,000 women killed last year, more than half died at the hands of intimate partners or family members. Women in Africa and the Americas are most at risk of being killed by people they know, the study found. Guns make intimate partner violence even deadlier. A 2003 study found that the presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely that a woman will be killed.
In 2018 the Domestic Violence Section of the Dallas Police Department, composed of approximately 25 detectives, investigated around 15,000 incidents.
More rank and file police officers are hurt investigating 911 calls involving domestic violence than any other type of incident.

On July 7,2016, five officers lost their lives in Dallas. Officers were ordered not to wear protective vests to appear more “friendly” to Next Generation Action Network protesters.

City of Dallas should have 3700+ officers to protect current and growing population. Shortage in manpower is currently down 1000+ officers. Existing manpower is maxed out and officers are physically and mentally exhausted. This creates critical response decision making stress.
Response time for priority 1 calls is the highest in the history of the DPD. Officer moral is lowest in history. On the bright side pay for DPD recruits has increased.
About 8% of the applicants for DPD police training (recruits) qualifies and is accepted into the training program. Of those selected for training approximately less than 1% will drop out of the training program.

Dallas Police Department protective vests are not state of the art. In some cases, officers have decided to purchased their own vests. Private organizations have solicited grants and donations to purchase 2,000 protective vests with plates to keep officers safe.
