The Value Of Virtual Simulation Training For Active Shooter Response

officer.com

In today’s climate, all law enforcement personnel must be prepared to respond to an active shooter event, whether it’s at a school, workplace or public venue.

VirTra offers law enforcement agencies a full line of judgmental use of force training and firearms simulator training from portable, single-screen firearms simulators to advanced 300-degree use of force simulator, from 1-screen to 3-screens or even 5-screens depending on the agency’s needs.

The three-man team made its way down the hallway walking fast, but not running. The point man was armed with an H&K MP5. He had it shouldered and was searching forward over the weapon sights, the gun tracking with his eyes like a tank turret following a weaponeer’s visual targeting system. Continue reading

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2019

Did you know telecommunicators service well over a million calls a year! This is one of the main reasons that in April we recognize National Public Safety telecommunicators Week.  During this week, public safety telecommunicators from across the country are honored for their service to the communities and public safety departments in which they work.

The Dallas Police Department is very proud of our call takers, dispatchers and support staff who are often the lifeline between the community and officers. These heroes stay calm in the most chaotic situations and bring comfort to those in need of help. In the words of Assistant Chief Shaw “you are truly the first responder for our first responders and our citizens, thank you”. We truly appreciate your hard work and dedication.

TEXAS LEGISLATURE- state’s rape kit backlog

TEXAS LEGISLATURE

Texas House unanimously endorses Dallas Rep. Victoria Neave’s bill to end state’s rape kit backlog

The House on Tuesday gave initial approval to a bill by Dallas lawmaker Victoria Neave that would tackle the state’s rape kit backlog by creating a timeline for testing new kits and mandating an audit to determine the number, status and location of all rape kits in the state.

The bill was approved 145-0. It must be voted on by the House one more time before heading to the Senate.

“This bill is for all the women who have waited for years for justice, for all the women who pursued justice and were not believed, for all the women whose rape kits sat untested,” Neave said. “Sexual violence pays no mind to party, to wealth, to age or to color. Today we have an opportunity to say: No more. Not one more rape kit untested, lost or destroyed. Not one more shot at justice left untested.”

Police departments should gauge the sentiment of the communities they serve before adopting new law enforcement technologies like unmanned aerial vehicles or artificial intelligence, speakers said at a session on 21st-century policing Friday at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas.

The Boston Police Department, for instance, does not use drones because the technology has not yet earned the public’s trust, said Paul Fitzgerald, the department’s former intelligence and analysis chief.

A Seeker thermal imaging law enforcement drone by the Texas-based company, MAXSUR

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in central Texas said that it used a thermal imaging drone to help capture a suspect that sheriff’s deputies said was carrying narcotics and had fired on another law enforcement officer earlier this month.

In the early morning of Jan. 5, police from Georgetown were chasing 22-year-old Malik Anthony Rashan Jackovich when Jackovich ditched his car near the San Gabriel River and ran under a bridge, law enforcement officials said. Jackovich fired at police, who called for aid from Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.
